maintenance engineer: career advice?

hello

I am thinking of becoming a maintenance technician/engineer in the FMCG industry or similar.

is anyone in the position to give me some insight about the career prospects, the difficulty of the training, skills needed, hazards involved, how is the typical work day, etc?

thanks!

Generally speaking, maintenance engineers are highly skilled. Some have been through a trade apprenticeship as an electrician and have a number of years experience to compliment their industry certifications, including testing & inspection and 17th edition. Others have degrees and masters degrees in their specific field....some even have all of the aforementioned.

Career wise, if you're new to the industry, your best bet is to start as a trainee. Unfortunately the pay is low but rewards are much better once qualified & have experience. I know blokes who earn £30-40k including some shift allowance, and some who are 45+.

People tend to stay in these careers so opportunities to climb the ladder aren't as frequent as in other careers.

    Hope that helps.
