Self Assesment tax return - confused!

Hi,

Hopefully someone here can lend me two mins of their time and give me the benefit of their experience. I'm filling in SA for the 1st time, i've navigated 95% of everything i need to calculate and enter into the form (i think/hope!)

One thing i'm really not clear on is where or how to enter a tax relief. I work from home as a standard part of my employment - which i've discovered i can claim an entire £4 per week back (Not a huge amount considering utility bills in the current climate). I've poured over advice and hmrc docs but cannot for the life of me work out where to enter the amount and flag it.

I think it goes in one of the two sections detailed below (wont let me post pics) but im not sure which one - both are in section 4. Employment expenses

Business travel and subsistence expenses:£
Fixed deductions for expenses:£208

and then ive entered "Home worker tax relief @ £4 per week for 52 weeks equals £208"

in the any other information on the next page

Any help is massively appreciated

Thanks
Dave

It looks OK so long as you are on PAYE, which you imply.
The acid test is What does the detailed calculation look like, is the £408 deducted in arriving at the tax?
The only thing that is constant is change.
  • Looks ok to me.
  • thanks I am indeed PAYE And hadn;t thought to check the tax calculation at the end, it does amend so i believe it's in been entered in the correct place

    thanks

    thanks

It goes into the box 'other expenses and capital allowances'.

Fixed deductions for expenses refer to that which is incurred for replacement tools or special working clothes or uniforms - nothing else!
Fixed deductions are amounts of flat rate expenses we agree with the relevant trade unions, or other bodies, to cover the costs of maintaining or replacing tools or special working clothes.
