Washing machine won't click over into spin cycle

I have an LG Direct Drive washing machine that won't click over into the spin cycle.

I don't know how old it is because I bought it second hand about a year ago.

To be more accurate it will go into the spin cycle so long as there's only a few light items in it (I know it's not working properly because it's a 5KG load). I've checked the fluff filter and it's fine, it's been cleaned out too.

The drawer at the top (where you put the powder in) has got water in it and shining a light through the filter at the bottom it looks like the bottom has got water in it too.

Is it worth dragging it out to check and see if the draining tube at the back is blocked? The last time I had a machine that wouldn't drain/spin it was because the pipe at the back was frozen. It hasn't been cold enough for the pipes to do that this time but it could be something else.

I will get the repair man out to it but I was just wondering if anyone may of had any idea what is wrong because I don't want to pay too much to fix it as I paid £90 for it.

Although it might be worth fixing anyway because new LG washers are expensive machines and not normally one I could afford.

Thank you for all your help

  • Sounds very much like the brushes need replacing. Not a big job and probably a DIY one. From memory, the repair man charged me 40 last time mine went.

Ours won't spin if the load is too small or too large. There could be a problem with the load weight sensor if the load is in the correct range.

What happens if you try to start a separate spin cycle? I.e. let the washing wash, but then start again choosing spin only....

Just had a similar problem last week - no spin or drain. A quick clean of the pump (hairband wrapped around it) and blocked water outlet pipes (they were just disgusting and completely blocked with gunk) and the machine worked fine. And I regularly do hot/very hot washes so assumed that there was no way it could have been blocked.
