I am thinking of making my mum a 'start your own business' hamper as she is keen to start afresh in the new year. I'm not quite sure what to put in the hamper other than a book? any suggestions?

Probably not particularly helpful, but what about post-its for ideas, memo pad for messages from all those important phone calls, diary for keeping track of appointments?
You could also go down the route of including things to relax after working so hard?0 -
How about something like Sage bookkeeping software? I seem to remember you can get sets with tutorial books included.0

Stationary (notebook, document wallet, filofax
etc)
A book about starting your own business or an inspirational entrepreneur
A nice pen
A £1 coin as a token 'investment'
You could put together a folder of useful info e.g. source cheap business cards or flyers, a prospectus for the local college (as they may do business classes), info about funding or other assistance.0 -
Thank you all for your help!0

You could get a pack of print your own business cards and maybe print out a sign with her company name (if she has one) and frame it to make it seem real.0

What type of business is she looking to start?2018 totals:
Savings £11,200

A book I really like is Marianne Cantwell's 'Be a Free Range Human'.
I'd also include a pretty/ brightly coloured diary (day to view), a nice pen and notebook, post-its, highlighters and some box files/ ring binders (again, pretty design/ favourite colour) for storing invoices and documents.
Also, I'd buy a Moo gift card, so she can design her own (good quality) business cards): http://uk.moo.com/gifts/cards/:starmod: Everything will be ok in the end; if it's not ok, it's not the end :starmod:
A HUGE thank you to all that post competitions0 -

There is a book called Guerilla Marketing, it's supposed to be good, I've yet to buy it myself, I'm going to check it out at the library first.0
