Advice about Dermatologist in the manchester area

Options
Hi all

I hope someone can help me on this.

Can someone tell me if there's any good dermatologist in the manchester area?
I've asked this to my previous GP and he said it isn't required because what they do is what GP do too.
I didn't get any result by the creams, pills I've been described, I'm now considering consulting a dermatologist who can help me treat blackheads, marks left by pimples etc.(I tried to cure this with homeremedies as well with no success).

In addition, I have to pay for dermatologist right?
is it possible to go to these dermatologist through the GP and have them for free or with concession?

THank you

  • From what you have described your need is cosmetic as opposed to clinical, and hence you would need to book privately. If you call your local private hospital they will be able to advise of cost, Also if you look at their website they may detail any specialisms the consultants have.

No, I mean a private hospital - BUPA, Nuffield etc. Or indeed you could search for 'dermatologist' and 'Manchester', which would bring up many results.

yes it did bring many results about dermatologist, but because I think the prices will be high, I was wondering if someone could tell me(maybe by experience) how much these things cost and most importantly if a good dermatologist could be reccommended as there are many in the results.

wow that's a lot, I was expecting a lot less.
I know they're expensive but I don't think I wanna go for the laser treatment; I heard there are peeling treatment that can help. obviouly I'm not the one to decide as the dermatologist would suggest that my situation requires a laser treatment.

That was for a consultation, several sessions and for acne scarring. There is a price list on there.

Do you have private medical cover? If so you need your GP to refer you for private treatment. The first consultation usually costs you £200 minus the excess. A private dermatologist can prescribe you some medication that your GP cannot but once you are prescribed it I think your GP can carry on.
Getting dermatology treatment on the NHS has to be for pretty extreme and long standing problems which explains why there are so many private cosmetic forms getting very good business from us. I think the rates others have quoted are pretty standard even for us northerners.

I see, I don't think I have private medical cover, i might have to check with my employer if is included in my contract as some companies do.

Have you asked your local pharmacist if they have any suggestions? They may be able to suggest something over the counter that you haven't thought of and is worth trying.
