JSA and Temporary position

My partner is on income based JSA and has been offered 2 weeks work with an agency. We don't know if there would be any more work after these 2 weeks.
If, after those 2 weeks there was no more work how would this work for JSA, as would have to close claim for those 2 weeks. Would we have to do complete new claim again?

He/she would have to do a rapid reclaim which bypasses some of the paper work. The claim can be made online.
  • I did a rapid-reclaim several times while I was unemployed and claiming JSA when offered temporary employment. It was quite straightforward. Given how things have changed since then things might take longer to sort out once the rapid-reclaim is filed. He just has to make it clear that the work which was offered was temporary and the assignment finished.
  • Thanks for replies
How long does a rapid reclaim take as when he did first claim it all happened quite quick, just a little concerned about having nothing coming in yet bills still to pay.

I did a rapid reclaim on line a couple of weeks ago. This should be quite quick too.
They say they will contact you within 48 hours once the on-line claim has been submitted, and then you get an appointment to call into the local job centre (this could be the same day).
In my case I got a letter after 5 days saying they had been trying to contact me (they hadn't) and to call if I wanted to continue the claim. I called and was in the Job Centre the next day, completing the claim, signing on and getting the next signing on date.(next week)

Normally, I would expect to receive the first payment after that next signing on day,(claiming from 25th nov) but I'm on a run-on of working tax credits so I expect that will taken into account for the first 4 weeks.

Thanks, yes we had the working tax credit run on last time, was just that i've read that some people have done rapid reclaims and it had taken 5-6 weeks which seemed a long time

  • In the Jobcentre booklet when coming of JSA, isn't there a question that asks is this employment due to last more then 5 weeks, wonder if that has any effect? when you'd be effectively telling them how short a duration it is by answering that question, I've also done rapid reclaims and it takes days to get the ball rolling again, just unfortunate it seems to rest on the signing cycle, I also remember putting in my first claim last January just days into the new year (think it was the 2nd or 3rd..) and again I remember I was quickly attended to
  • With a RR, doesn't the no-benefits-for-the-1st-3-days rule reapply?
