I'm going to ditch Egg
Comments

Have you actually talked to them yet or just taken the hump at the thought of them daring to check you out/potentially sell you something?
10 minutes of your time and a few polite "no thanks" might get you ££££ credit limit increase which you can then deposit into a savings account (via a current account) or pay off higher rate credit card debts depending on your circumstances.
Rearrange these words into a well known phrase or saying:
nose your off cut spite to your face!If only everything in life was dreadful!0 -
Just done my first SBT with Egg. What are the negatives you mention?chucky wrote:Egg are great......they do have a couple of negatives.......0 -

Who cares what it's for? Its debt to them, that's all that matters.
The only info they need is my current salary (which they already know)
I know what their game is - they're trying to flog me insurance/current accounts/other worthless financial products in order to nullify any profit I make from the 0% promotional period.
I disagree. Just because they have extended some debt to you does not mean they'll necessarily give you some more. I think the point Daveboy makes is a valid one. As for you, if you cannot spare 10-15 minutes to speak to them, to get your credit limit extended, it is your loss and not theirs.
Even a corporate, however renowned, has to give details to its relationship manager for any increase in a credit limit extended to them. You don't just get your credit limit increased, especially not in the times we are in, where there's lot of talk of such offers drying up, and there is an increasing tendency to discourage tarts taking advantage of BT offers. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -
You can simply request a credit limit increase online. Log into your account and
I did this very recently, requesting an increase of my limit by £3k for some stoozing. It was immediately accepted, no phone calls required
Of course each case will be different, and I guess there will be times when they made need to refer the decision. But worth a go, as it avoids lengthy telephone calls where they try to sell you extra products.
(To do this online, log into your Egg account, choose 'About your Egg card' on the left hand menu, and click on 'Request new credit limit'. You can then enter the amount you require)
Good luck!0 -
I think it's definitely worth reconsidering before you go ahead and cancel. Remember they have the anniversary offer where by they allow you to BT for another five months.
Nice to know you can BT at a later date without having to go through the rigmarole and stress of applying for a new card. Also won't show up on your credit history.
Don't let the people who work for EGG put you off!! You're only letting them win, if you do!
Be an egg-head, not a spam-head! ;-) (No offence intended)0 -
10 minutes of your time can be profitable - read on.
My Egg Green with a 10K limit is coming up to its anniversary in May.
I applied for Egg Blue on line potentially to use as a mule and was declined. I took some advice from this site and rang and enquired why? I told the guy on the phone my current outstanding credit cards, when they would be paid off and he passed this information to someone in the Appeals Section. I wasn't sure how big a hole I would dig for myself, but thought I'd got nothing to lose.
My income is a modest 15K.
I also have £15K with Lloyds Platinum, £1,750 with Amazon, £2,500 with IF,
£2,200 with Morgan Stanley and Citibank is coming on board too. So I realised it looked as though I had the potential to already have cards totalling £31,450 with an income of £15K.
So the 10 minute call came today. I think it depends on your attitude.
A gentle sense of humour I find goes a long way. End result I will be getting an Egg Blue for £5K, already confirmed on line tonight!
The guy wanted to get the general feel for my finances - i.e. why I wanted an Egg Blue. Explained primarily it would be for purchases. He noted that
I had done quite a few balances transfers on my account, what for. So I educated him that whereas large companies usually try to make money out of joe public, this time I was turning the tables. I told him that the Lloyds and Amazon will be paid off next week and the following week, and that in any caseI am lucky as I do not have a real debt, and have savings of 50K so I can pay anything back when they want it. He came to the conclusion that I am a meticulous individual as everything is documented as obviously everything is repaid the day before the 0% period ends!
So Pioneer31, there was no question of being pressured into buying what I didn't want. You are often asked is there anything else I can help you with today - a polite no, is enough.
You wrote, "it's debt to them, who cares what it's for". I would suggest
seeing your current salary and current credit card limit, does not tell the whole financial picture about you.0 -
well, I decided to undergo the interrogation from Egg. I must say that I am not as happy as some on here about divulging all my financial activity. (how much do i save, what do i buy with my money, what will i do when the card expires, what do i do for a living and where do i work......and the killer - why did i transfer the whole limit into bank?)
I felt a little exposed.
I was eventually refused a credit increase (of 2k).
It seems that they want to know everything, fair enough some of you say, it is their money they are lending.
Given the extra amount I wanted to borrow, I did think they were digging a little deep but nevermind, you live and learn. I'll still hold onto the card because I like the simplicity of their website and the easy way to change your payments online.
I do agree with the news article about the CC firms clamping down. They very certainly have their 'stooze detectors' on full throttle nowadays.0 -
I was with Egg for a couple of years. I took out the card when it was a good deal but was too lazy to change when they creptup their rates.
Could find any useful comparison sites other than https://www.gold-creditcards.co.uk
Can anyone suggest any other good comparison sites?0 -
Pioneer31
Sorry to hear you were refused a credit increase. Maybe you are in a position shortly to reduce the number of credit cards you have, or combine them and then try again, but I would suggest a respectful gap.
Yes, I also was quizzed about the transfers to current account. He seemed quite happy with the explanation that as I have a "foreign" husband and we visited his family and took several of our children to meet the relatives, and we all know how costly long haul flights are. That part was true, but that's not where their £10K went, that went straight into the stooze pot!
I agree about the simplicity of their website and the easy transfer of money.
Well good luck in a few months, when perhaps you can try again.0 -
