I won't hoover again now til Tuesday night, and then probably again before my family get here on Wednesday

Oven pride is easy, give it a go :)

I can't do any washing until Thursday now as I've nowhere to dry it :(

I did all our clothes, bath mats, bedding and towels and took down the launderette to use the big drier, all it cost was £2 for the whole lot, cheaper than using mine:money:

[ts very hard - you have to try and be fare to your kids but also be seeming to be fare and equal to them.

my three are all young adults with very different incomes but I always try to give them what they need at whatever stage they are at.
for instance eldest son has the most income as he gets overseas allowance but he is mostly confined to base so I've been sending over numerous tuck boxes and magazines and toiletries and a Christmas jumper so all his necessities are dealt with and he knows we are always thinking of him. I suppose if you added the cost up it probably works out at least £30 a month.
Eldest child wanted a fry pan so that's her main gift this year but as a girl she is very easy to buy for so I've also got numerous small things as well. She is on a good income but her living expenses are huge and she also has a vast social life so I try not to spend too much on her.
Youngest son I've just got books and magazine subscriptions and a few odds and sods. He is on the smallest income so I try and make sure he is well supplied - when he comes home he fills his car with as much toiletries, cleaning stuff and food as he can take back.
He won't ask for or take money but I've got him to tell me that the course he is on in January will cost £180 so I've put £100 into his savings and I'll give him the other £80 in cash - his take home is less than £650 a month so that £180 is a big amount to come out of his pay.
So it looks like I favour the youngest but he is really the one in most need - and actually he is also the most helpful one of the 3, sorted the Christmas tree out yesterday, tidied a kitchen cupboard, tidied the kitchen etc - he does not come home and sit on the sofa and expect to be waited on for the next 2 weeks :D

QUOTE=vanilla twist;64144492]I suppose the answer is is give them

what you can afford to from glitches throughout the year and then at christmas ask for ideas of things they would like and buy a present. Don't be affraid to tell them what your budget is for each child/grandchild. A budget is what you can afford NOT what they expect you to afford. Then happy child with something for xmas (which is a suprise and happy dad as only spent what he can afford to.
Maybe leave gifts with someone they will see on the day as opening before 25th really is not on.

Hope that helps you scamps. Let them know at christmas what the rules are for next years gifts and stick to it.
Personally my kids are getting £100 per household which they can spend on their kids, themselves or food. Dgc are both getting the equivilant of £50 spent on them. Helping dd with xmas food as me and dad will be there.
My rule for birthdays is tell me what you want and you might get lucky within reason. Tell me you want money and you get £20 this has not changed for years.

Pride can get in the way. Your children run households now so know what things cost. Maybe offer your dd1 the occasional job helping you at the bootsales so she knows how hard you have to work for your money.

How did you have oven fires:eek::eek:
Im going to leave hoovering until xmas eve:rotfl: if i do it now will need doing again:rotfl::rotfl: washing and drying is all done and out away so no worries there:D

I'm convinced there is something wrong with the gravity in this house as so much sticks to the floors and I don't know anyone else with such filthy carpets despite the constant vaccumming.

OH had one minor grill fire  but main damage was done by sons deciding to grill steak, put it on full heat and then went out and left it to cook itself
We were away for a couple of days and madly assumed a couple of older teenage lads could easily cope on their own for 2 days as they were out at college and work all day :rotfl:
Oven still works but it has melted knobs - no point in replacing it until we re vamp the kitchen in ???? Years time.

    Use the gloves provided!

Put your oven shelves in the bag, put most of the liquid on the bag, seal it and fold it over, shake it to allow the fluid to coat your shelves, leave to rest for a couple of hours and turn it over and leave again. Wash with hot soapy water.

You pour the rest of the liquid in the bottom of your oven and use a sponge to spread it round. Leave it for at least 4 hours and rinse with hot soapy water

Once I'd done all that, I ran the oven on a medium heat just to dry it all out properly.

No elbow grease required at all :j
