DH and I started going away at Chrsitmas after both our Mums died. They were both in different residential homes but used to come to us for a few days over Christmas. MIL died first and my Mum just over a year later - I couldn't face the thought of the two empty chairs the following year so we started going away and have kept it up every year since.

Very good idea. I think there will come a year before long when we have no one home for Christmas and we will be studying the last minute deals in December with keen interest.
both OH and myself are now orphans in the snow - no parents left.
I feel Christmas is a bit like putting on a huge theatrical show - each year a different theme. This years will be a sophisticated adult Christmas as 2 of our offspring are home
