PV Installers in Leeds, West Yorkshire

Hello all,

We are considering investing in a 4kw PV system when our cash ISA rate drops in March.

We have already arranged for a quote from one local installer but were wondering if anyone else could recommend installers in our area so we could ideally obtain 3 quotes?

Thanks in anticipation.

Not Leeds... but close enough. Solarlex in Halifax are pretty reputable.

Thanks for the blatant plug of your own company with your first post but we have already had our panels installed.

Erm... Not my company at all.
I live in Halifax, so naturally I'm going to mention a known installer (that's also local to myself).

As I'm looking into solar now, I thought it'd be a good idea to sign up, knowing I'd be asking for info down the line.
My first post happened to be trying to be helpful.

But I obviously posted this before I saw your more recent thread after install.

I was also going to PM yourself asking who your installer was so I can get more quotes.

Apologies but you resurrected an old thread with your first post mentioning a specific company name, spammers often target the forum for free advertising.

Will pm you the name of our installer - if you are in Halifax, stay away from Evoenergy, they were a complete waste of time when we dealt with them, failing to return phone calls or even come and do a site survey.

    Again no offence intended.

    What size system you planning?

No Worries, and thanks for the PM.

I also happened to be in IKEA yesterday and spotted they have the Hanergy stand in there now too, so got a quick quote there of £4500 for 20 of their panels. I personally think that's a bit over-generous as my roof is slightly odd. My estimates put it at 10m² facing SW and maybe possibly 5m² on a SW facing side also.
The guy who did my underfloor heating gave me a quick quote of £6500 which is the figure I've had in my mind a long time.
I'm aiming at a 3kw system, so not sure IKEA's 120w panels can give me this given the roof space.

Is the £6500 quote for a 3kWp system? Seems a tad expensive if it is.

Agreed. I paid that for a 4kw system.

I wouldn't buy from IKEA I wanted a local company with good back up for if anything goes wrong in the future.

That quote was back in July last year when I was first dipping my toes into the water with the idea of Solar. I've done some forum searching and readin-up since then, and have also come to the conclusion it's a tad on the high-side for that size of system.

I have electric under-floor heating, so have always had in mind that solar would help in some way towards the increased bills the floor heating would generate.

If your pushed for roof space you could always look at the higher rated panels like the ben-q. Around 325W panels for the same footprint as a 250W panel, thus increasing to closer to 4kWp system. they do come at a higher price(obviously) but the extra generation would help towards your underfloor heating

I see 4 kW Sunpower systems are listed for (including installation) for as little as £6,499 on Ebay. That's only 12 panels, each of 1599 x 1046 mm as they are 327 W panels.

Obviously I can't vouch for the seller, but it seems a very good price as the Sunpower 327 panels are generally regarded as the best. They came first for generation in field tests and Sunpower offer a better guarantee than most.

The BenQ 327 W panels seem to be virtually identical but don't come with quite the same guarantee.

We were quoted for 11 x 250 W Hyundai panels giving 2.75 kW two years ago but today I'd go for 12 of the 327 W panels to get up to the 4 kW limit.

Obviously you won't get much generation to cover heating in winter, but I think it should make a useful contribution in spring and autumn. But I think you'd definitely want to squeeze as much wattage onto the roof as possible if that is your aim.
