Silver colloidal gel

Hi all,
Been using some colloidal gel to help rid of nasty cold. It seems to be working. Got given some as a gift.
Coincidentally came across site that mentions making your own colloidal silver gel for pennies. It's very expensive stuff. Around £17 a bottle. Does anyone know if this works or it's a scam?
If it's for real- would love to make some as Xmas presents. They call it thesilveredge. Some American site that looks like its real. They say its
The 1 Selling Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator
Would love to hear what other MSE's think?

I've had a look at the website - it's a scam.
You can't generate silver from nowhere - it's an element. Anyone promising to 'generate' all the silver colloid you'd need to bathe in, is having a laugh. You have to start off with silver to get a silver containing mixture or compound.
Last time I looked, silver is a precious metal and the pure silver required for this sort of chemistry is very expensive.
A colloid isn't a solution - it's a suspension of a fine particulate in a medium which the website claims is water - silver is too dense (the particles it forms are too heavy) and water too liquid a medium for that to happen. And good luck finding the pure, chloride ion free water required as well. Silver reacts with the halide ions so fiercely, that it swamps any other reaction.
Yes, there is such a thing as silver colloid, silver does have a use in infection control but this isn't how it goes about it. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
The silver particle size is meant to be very important or so I have seen claimed.
If it's only stopping an infection you would probably be better off both healthwise and financially by using an immune system booster. The most beneficial immune system nutrients and immune system stimulants such as bacteria and herbs. Fermented foods can work very well and those are very cheap to make.0 -
the silver ions become suspended in water. It uses silver strips (electrodes)to move the ions into water. It does NOT generate silver
I used to make my own but there was a lot of equipment involved including a water distiller, so I sold it all when we moved house. It is quite high in energy to produce so works out cheaper to buy for us. There are some reputable sites. I get ours from
http://colloidalsilveruk.com/
I have nothing to do with the site, except as a customer.
I just need to add that the liquid I made was tested by me and I had to buy expensive testing equipment and was very methodical (I have a science degree) so all in all it works out expensive and time consuming as well
It does work and it works fantastically well eg my dh was starting to develop a skin infection 2 days ago, he just gave the area a light spray and the infection was stopped in its tracks. I started to develop some soreness around a tooth and some people would use corsodyl, I gave the area a quick spray and it was gone by morning. By coincidence, half yearly dental checkup today and mouth feels good
I am qualified in health matters (four years training) and also make sure that we get the nutrients we need so our immune systems are as good as they can get, considering our ages. The immune system starts to deteriorate with age by the way.
re fermented foods, yes very good for supply of probiotics. I actually make my own sauerkraut in a special fermentation pot. However it is good to stop microbes in their tracks, before they invade the body
We travel 45 min to get to our dentist (ok, my daughter is my highly qualified dentist) and we will be having home prepared green juice before we go
Health does come from within but we are under constant attack from microbes and sometimes the immune system cannot cope quick enough, so we feel ill eg colds turning to sinusitis. I would rather zap the microbes in my throat right at the start of the first tickle0 -

Since the 1990s, "colloidal silver" has been marketed as an alternative medicine product, with unsubstantiated, and illegal in some jurisdictions,I]citation needed[/I claims of effectiveness. Medical authorities advise against the use of such colloidal silver preparations, as does the published medical literature, because of their lack of proven effectiveness and the risk of side effects.[4][19]
Colloidal silver preparations primarily deliver inactive metallic silver, rather than the active microbicidal silver ion.[7] There is no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of colloidal silver in vivo. Some in vitro studies demonstrate an anti-bacterial effect of colloidal silver,[20] although one study in 2004 of a colloidal silver solution marketed on the Internet showed no such antimicrobial activity.[21]

Thanks Gingernutty - he confused me by talking about concentrations & thanks for exposing scamGingernutty wrote: »I've had a look at the website - it's a scam.

Thanks kittie. So if I forget the word generate (I see the logic) is he creating colloidal solution by moving ions?
I do agree with you abOut it working. Can't believe how powerful it's been with this awful cold I have.
I am not interested in precision amounts. I am not selling it. Just want to make some gifts which would help friends. I don't mind what strength so long as it has some benefit. I thought like homeopathy it is tiny tiny concentration. :beer:the silver ions become suspended in water. It uses silver strips (electrodes)to move the ions into water. It does NOT generate silver

Thanks. Kittie lots of crap out there. It's just that colloidal has worked amazingly well and fast for me definitely speeds up healing. For burns Scarring and colds it's radical healing for me.

Oh dear, the homeopathy word has been invoked...I'm away before I say something offensive!

I like the Tim Minchin line
"What do you call an alternative therapy that's been proved to work? - A therapy"How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
