Confirmation of council tax alteration

I received a letter from the Valuation board in July confirming the decrease of my council band from B to A. On the letter it says the relevant Billing Authority would be advised accordingly. I assumed that would mean i would receive a backdated amount but i have heard nothing else.
Do i have to get in touch with the council myself to ask for my council tax refund or does it just take a while?
Any help would be appreciated.:)

It can take a while but there's no harm in speaking with the council and checking that they are making the refund to you.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Ok, thanks for that CIS. Ill give them a phone and see what they say. Fingers crossed
  • I hope someone can advise me :) I challenged my council tax band and received a letter saying it is now reduced from band G to band F so happy days. I have contacted them today to find out when I will receive my overpayments / refund for the 20 years we have lived at our property and they tell me they have only gone back to April 2013! This can't be right??
Has anyone else had this and how can I challenge it???
