Is it worth insuring a Turtle Beach headset?

Ok, they are the cheap ones not mega expensive.

We bought a pair of the xp11 wired ones from Argos the other day, £29.99.

I was asked if I wanted the cover which was £7.49 for 3 years, I declined as I never pay for extra cover for anything (may have to look for some for my daughters new laptop though as we have never paid £350 for any one item before, always buy secondhand or lesser prices for netbooks etc, so a bit scared!).

Anyway, because we spent over £100 we were given a £10 discount voucher which has to be used by Christmas Eve.

I was wondering if it would be worth using it to take out the insurance on the headset, would it be worth doing that, how dependable are these cheaper TB ones?

It will be used by my husband on the PS3 and my daughter on the Xbox 360.

Personally for low value items I wouldn't bother insuring them as more then likely they will last for a long time and wont be worth it in the end.
For a more expensive item I would be more likely to, but even saying that my house insurance covers individual items up to about £2K even when they are out of the house, so you might find that you have insurance for your more expensive items, or can add them to the policy for next to nothing per year.

Turtle beach are very good quality. That is one of the cheap sets you have picked up as you could easily spend over £100 but I probably still wouldn't insure them even at that price. You should be fine with them provided everyone takes decent care of them

Just be careful with not stressing the volume box where the wires come out from and you should be fine, most of these companies make very little money on technology so they always push insurance on people that they do not need :)

If they expect something to break within a couple of years I really would have second thoughts about buying and have walked away before, but Turtle Beach are the best you can get :)

  • Insuring something costing under £30?? I've seen it all now...

Do you reckon I should insure the food shopping I've just done in case anything goes wrong with it?

As I said, don't bother normally but have a voucher to use up.

But, hey, thanks for your input! :T

I would say it depends how well your daughter will look after them.
My son is age 8, and we had pair after pair of the original microsoft ones for xbox, approx £18.
Then turtle beach. None of them last over 6 mths.
This time I have insured the xmas ones. For 3 years accidental damage etc it was £27.99. I spend more than that on 2 pairs to replace damaged ones each year.

I paid over £100 for them this time, so fingers crossed.

I need to go to Argos tomorrow so will check what the insurance covers.

It looks like it covers accidental damage, is so I may use that voucher I have.

Ok, I didn't pay a lot, £29.99 but if they break just after 12 months (up to 3 years) I will be able to get her another pair without forking out again.

    Thanks for your replies folks!

    ;)
