Digital Camera (must have good indoor pics)

hi there i am looking for a new digital camera. the one i have just now is around 3years old. i must admit to knowing very little about what to look for in a camera. the main reason im looking for a new one is after being to the recent Fa Cup final and the UFC in Belfast. At the football any pics i zoomed in on (1.5x + on the camera) were very blurry and looked very bad. In addition at the ufc i had an excellent view of the ring but my pics came out terrible and many of the ones taken with the flash still appear very dark. it was very frustrating. i have tickets to see the ufc again in london so im looking for a camera that will provide a much better indoor shot when dark and one with good quality even using zoom. My budget is around £100-£150. any help on where to start looking or what i should look for would be great.
thanks
thanks

There's no camera digital or otherwise that will do what you want in your price range.0

the range on flashes is generally quite short so won't illuminate rooms like you want.
For a general good camera the Panasonic Lumix range are generally v good.0 -
As above, the flash on any compact camera won't illuminate a football match. That's why the pro's spend hundreds on big flashguns! Its pointless using the flash for this kind of thing, to be honest. You'd be better off looking for a camera with whats called a high ISO rating, which means it will be better in low light. ISO2000, ISO3200 etc.
As for the zoom thing, I imagine you've got a camera with digital zoom if you're losing quality when you use it? You want to go for something with optical zoom instead. Although bear in mind you'll never get really close to the action with a compact camera as 99% of them have 3x optical zoom.
A good compact camera for just under £150 would be the Fuji F31, which is great in low light.
If you wouldn't mind something a little bigger then something in the Fuji 'S' range might help - the new s5700 is pretty small for the zoom it's got (10x)0
