  • Today I received a copy of the letter my MP has written to the chief executive of HMRC saying he was taking the unusual step of writing to her as the senior representative because I had already written to HMRC on 3 occasions about this with no response apart from further demands for payment including from a debt collection agency. He enclosed all the paperwork I gave him between us and a copy of my BR certificate. He said he would contact me when she responds to him.

I'm really hoping this sorts it, and quickly. I will let you know.

    Pip.

Today I received a copy of a letter sent to my MP by the HMRC today. The letter acknowledges the problems they have caused me and they apologise that they did not respond to my previous correspondence. They agree they should have included the tax credit overpayment for the period ending 6th April 2012 in the bankruptcy and say they have now done this and have removed my case from the debt collection agency. The letter says they are conscious of the worry and distress their actions have caused me and are sending me £25 within the next 3 weeks as compensation.

While I am so pleased this may be the end of this nightmare, I am worried because they quote a date in early April and my BR was at the end of May and I received the alleged overpayment after the date they quote but before I went BR. So maybe this hasn't sorted it? But they say they have removed the case from the debt collection agency so hopefully this is a good sign but I don't feel I can relax yet. The email address of the writer is on the letter though so I could email him to clarify?

Any ideas on how to celebrate with the £25? :D

Many thanks to everyone for your help and advice, it's a shame it takes an MP to get a response from the HMRC they of everyone have been a complete nightmare.

Completely off thread but I had never heard of Krispy Kreme except to see them in american shows and then when we moved over here they are everywhere. Then in the last year or so I have had friends post about them on FB and such like over there a few times. So weird.

Well done Pippa on your success. Fingers crossed this is the last of it.

    Good news!
I wouldn't worry about the dates too much as the Revenue are not that good at adding up anyway....
    Enjoy your £25 quid!
