Wrapping Presents for Children

I think I will do this, using some patterned sheets or pillowcases bought from a charity (thoroughly washed of course) I simply hate all the waste, and at least the fabric can be re-used - even if just as a duster or a baby sick mopper-upper! I'm a bit of a Pinterest addict, I'm sure I'll find a tutorial there. Actually, I'm not really celebrating Christmas as such, the gifts I have bought are house warming/ new grandchild pressies. Wish me luck, I really am a bit of a DIY Dud.0

Thank you for reminding me!
I have a stash of army surplus maps, bought with an eye on wrapping. 3 pence a sheet IIRC, air routes into various cities.
I've also a big atlas that has done it's job in the car, has been kicked to flinders & still has a few big clean pages that will wrap small things Beautifully. Earrings for teachers identified by city, I think...0 -
My partner has used left over wallpaper for my gifts...not christmassy at all but never mind! I think Im going to bulk buy in the slaes this year. I bought cheap paper from Tesco this year but you can tell its cheap! Really thin and tears too easily. Will keep an eye out for some thick high quality paper in the sales and stash it awaySlimming World Member - Started 05/02/150

I've used old music scores in the past, bought for a song (sorry) from a charity shop and wrapped round with red ribbon. Everyone said how nice it looked. I like the idea of maps - will try that!
When I do buy wrapping paper I do it after Xmas. I make sure to get the neutral kind that can also serve for birthdays or other events.'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

If you are going for the newspaper idea - then there are lots of free newspapers (Metro etc). But best thing to do is go to your local library and grab a few of the old newspapers - for free! (Especially Sunday broadsheets) - staff usually will give them to you if you ask nicely
Although, please ask first! Our library keeps an archive of the last month/year's worth for some titles, so we need them.0 -
Just to throw my tuppence in.....
I would go to the effort of sourcing maps, fabric or music sheets for the ADULTS in our family. My mum in particular works hard to have a beautifully decorated tree and home over the festive season and she would really appreciate her gifts wrapped in this unusual, special way, rather than the garish Santas head repeated that you see on the paper stuff (she hides gifts wrapped in this until xmas morning)
However, when it comes to kids it's the trashy, garish mismatch of paper that the like.
My own kids, who are by no means spoilt, wouldn't take the time to admire an Ariel view of our home on a gift, they'd just want to see whats inside! My kids have their own wrapping paper (ds1 Spider-man and the Simpsons, ds2 cars and toy story, dd princess and fairies) but this is more to save me from writing a million tags, much easier to know who's presents who's by the design of the paper.
It all seems a tragic waste of time and effort to go to so much trouble when wrapping paper is so cheap, quick and easy! And if your environmentally conscious you could save the used wrapping paper to use again or for crafts and drawing.
On saying that I, as a fully fledged adult would love to receive fabric around my gifts to add to my pityingly small crafting fabric stashMummy to ds 29/12/06 dd 10/2/08 ds 25/5/11:Amy angel born too soon 18/11/12, always with me Emmie Faith:A15 projects in 2015 10/15completed0 -
I always buy silver gold or purple paper in big rolls when they sell it off for 10 or 15p and use all year round. easy or what??0

I must say, my children find it much easier to unwrap the cheap thin wrapping paper (they only have little hands!) than the thick expensive glossy stuff, so I always use cheap thin paper bought in the Jan sales for kids' presents. I just put a bit of extra sticky tape on any areas of paper that might get ripped through by sharp corners. I use glossier paper also bought in sales for grown-ups.
Then I use ribbon rescued from last year's presents to attach gift tags made out of last year's Christmas cards - that way we have loads of different designs and the kids help me choose which design each person will have.0 -
I've bought everyone a newspaper for Christmas, will this idea hinder the unwrapping process or could they turn it into a game of pass the parcel?:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
