Please move this if in wrong place, but I'd like to blog just to get this of my chest, and if there are other people not enjoying their new jobs then nice to know we're not alone

OK still the snotty one, and survived day 2 (nearly didn't) thanks to accident near the park & ride I'm using - Just got to the building with 5 mins to spare, got to my floor as the clock struck I'm on the very top floor (note to self I can't jump out of the window when feeling the pressure! :D and must find some sort of diet class sprinting across town just reminded me how unfit I've got) didn't get telling off because they seem to have NO rules, (not convinced that is good or bad!) except if you highlight a form in the wrong colour that warrants a talking to, that and keeping customer's on the phone to long as we have to talk at them rather then have a convo ! yep for the first time in my career I seem to be having to hang up on callers if our friends can't help or you sound to old, doesn't just apply to swearing here - no I won't give any warning either!!! no goodbye, oh my days never experienced this before, I've also had the chat of must forget everything that has gone on before in past jobs when I tried to explain I was used to being complaint aware, once worked for a company where they would sack you on the spot for not following the company complaints procedure, in fact it was the only thing I once signed when I started one job that I would understand and use the complaints procedure when necessary

Only got 3.5 leads (meant to achieve 5) think I hit my record level of calls - now in the 350's

Start with full day's tomorrow, the boss's attitude seemed different today 'you will get used to this' 1 girl I started with has already just disappeared :(, just got to keep reminding myself soon xmas and because it is compulsory shut down I won't be working for around 2 weeks for the first time in my career later this month, something I got to try and keep holding on for

Not a bad place, miss the cubical effect you know when you have the big boards up, separating the desks that you have at most call centre's, so callers say it is very noisy and that they can hear my opo beside me, radio in headset is good, the staff area is plush I was taken aback once I found it (there wasn't a guided tour of the building so took me a few hours to find the ladies, where to get a drink and whatnot) there is no swearing or stares at this place but equally people don't talk much, perhaps that isn't a bad thing? :) well beats doing work trials and being at the jokecentre (trying to be positive)

Why is it some jobs you love day 1 and others take some getting use to (if at all)?

Watch out for further updates

  • You might not be suited to the job but it's better than nothing. It sounds like a very high pressure telesales...I've never heard of having to hang up on people you can't sell to!

the other thing is they might not have said anything about being late but they might be making a mental note of any times you come in late. Better to be 5 minutes early than on time as you can grab a drink and be ready to start work on time

OP, if you wish to blog about your job, why not set up a blogspot blog, an Adsense account & a Skimlinks account.

Once you have a few posts you can apply to Skimlinks to monetise your site.
Get it right and you could earn a bob or two.

    Or

Sign up to Hubpages & create a hub giving tips on survival in a call centre.

I had someone hang up on me from a call centre today. Its not the first time it has happened it makes me furious, especially as I am never rude to cold callers as I appreciate they are only doing their job so hate it when they can't even be bothered to say thanks/goodbye before they hang up. However I didn't know before your post this is what they have to do! I just thought they were being extremely rude as wanting to get onto the next call quicker (not that it takes much time to just say "ok thanks")

Thanks for posting your experience I will not think so bad of them next time.

Really good advice here. You could also set up a Facebook page to comment about your employment on. Maybe post from work too?

OP - have you ANY IDEA AT ALL about how easy it is for employers (or even work colleagues) to identify employees from even very broad references to your workplace. You've already identified the kind of work you do, some of their working practices, when you began the job and the timing of your work arrival. We even know which floor you are on! How difficult do you think it is for someone to identify you?

At what point will people learn that the only safe comments about work on any form of social media is NO COMMENT? You do not blog about your work, you do not post of Facebook about your work... not if you wish to continue to work.

I usually have cold callers hang up on me, but that's because I'm playing cold caller bingo with a few friends/relatives. I used to hate cold callers and was often rude to them, but I'm now developing Stockholm Syndrome I think :rotfl:
