Agency fees

I have been working for a company via an agency for around 6 months now. Employing company gave about 5 application forms to those on the agency to fill in with the intention of taking us off the agency. Now the company found out they have to pay the agency £1,500 for every worker they want to employ direct.

As the employee I am disappointed that the company have said that no agency staff will be taken on permanent. Is there anyway round the employing company having to pay the agency their fee?

I was thinking of resigning from the agency to remedy the situation but then again there aren't any guarantees that I would be taken on by the company if i took this course of action.

If you resign from the agency then the company probably won't be able to take you on for a period of time without incurring a fee.

Your best bet is to find out if the agency is signed up to the REC code of conduct. If they are then after 14 weeks employment they cannot charge a fee if the company decide to take you on directly.

Unfortunately it is voluntary and they may well not be a member.

I have just checked they are signed up to REC code of conduct. May inform the employer.

No harm in giving them a quiet nod - the contract manager in HR could gently remind them of the value of the business they do put through the agency.

Extended period of hire needs to be discussed between agency and company that wants to employ you directly. I.E. you stay as a temp staff member for another 3 or 4 or 5 or blah blah blah there will be no temp to perm fee. if the agency does not agree with this, then the company wanting to hire you should inform them that they will not use their services again -- amazing how quickly the agency will change their mind.

    Good luck
