Can anyone tell me the most cost-effective way of getting my daughter Minecraft? She wants it for her 9th birthday but she does not have a tablet, smartphone or gaming platform. As far as I can make out, I could download it onto the family computer for free BUT:
a) is it likely to run properly on our (fairly new but pretty basic) laptop?
b) even if it does, will it slow everything else down so much that the computer will be useless to the rest of the family?
c) will she ever get off the computer long enough for the rest of us to be able to use it anyway?!!
If letting her play this on our laptop is not a good idea, what would be the cheapest platform on which it would be available?
I am on a very tight budget and had not banked on having to buy a tablet or the like but this is the only thing she has asked for for her birthday. I am not at all technically minded so really need some advice!

Hi MollyW
I paid about £16/17 for the download to our PC for my grandson from Mojang. Hope this helps. This is the official site https://minecraft.net/

Thanks Marrioa, I could certainly stretch to that but am still not sure whether downloading to my laptop would work/be a good idea.
I have heard Minecraft works on the Kindle Fire HD but, at £120, they are a bit out of my price range. I have seen lots of mini netbooks/tablets on Amazon at the £45 - £50 level but have no idea which, if any, would be any good for playing Minecraft (or doing anything else) on.
Still need help!0 -
we have it on pc, tablets and xbox and the xbox get used the most the game can be bought for £14.99 for the xbox or currently sainsburys have the 360 console with minecraft for £124.99 and if you know anyone that works at sainsbursys staff are currently getting 15% off hope this helps .0

When is her Birthday?
I have a ds who is minecraft mad, we have a tablet (its mine) so at the moment he uses that, I do have the problem of getting him off it!
I am thinking of getting him an older second hand x box so he can play on that. However his birthday is not until a few months after Christmas, now is not the right time to do this, I am sure after Christmas I will find one much cheaper.0 -
I don't think Minecraft is particularly intensive computer-wise.
However, in answer to one of your other questions, yes - you will have real difficulty getting your child off it.0 -
I'm almost certain that minecraft have a free downloadable demo on their website. You could download that to your laptop and see if it works (runs properly).
I think it will be fine on points a and b, but couldn't tell you about c :-)0 -
Can anyone tell me why people buy Minecraft for the PC from Game instead of directly from Minecraft if it is the same price?
My daughter says she wants it for her new laptop but says she has to buy it from Game.
I thought it was because you get the disk from Game but she says you get a code to download Minecraft, not a physical disk.
I can't see why downloading directly from the game maker is the easier option.0 -

Hi there. Minecraft is a little bit hit-and-miss on a laptop unless your laptop has a dedicated graphics card. My laptop struggles a lot to run it as it only has integrated graphics whereas my PC with 4GB of RAM and a separate graphics card runs it like a dream. You're better off running it on a PC with a graphics card or a console - my lad got it for PS3 over Christmas and it's ace on that!In deep...0 -
Hi, I just did a quick search on Game to confirm what I thought - if you buy from game you are still only getting the digital download, there is no hrd copy for Minevraft for the PC as far as I am aware. The good thing about buying from Game however is the reward points
We have it on the PC and on the Xbox here

Thanks, I think we will buy it from Game then. Yep, we have it on the Xbox too at the minute.
My daughter says there are a lot more things to download on the pc compared to the Xbox so she is quite looking forward to buying it.
Cheers.0
