Urgent Advice - Brother in laws ex wife has gone bankrupt

Hi All,

I'm after some genuine advice for my brother in law here.

Last year he was kicked out of home, and his then wife started divorce proceedings. They were finally divorced last month.

She has moved into a rented house, and he's back at home.

He received a letter this morning from his bank saying she's applied for insolvency and because there is a link between them all his facilities are being frozen.

This isn't good at any time of the year but just before Christmas is the worst time of all.

He's managed to get an appointment with the bank this morning, but isn't sure what to expect.

Can anyone offer any advice?

The bank account / mortgage used to be in joint names. I'm fairly sure it's not any longer.

AIUI, so long as there's been no transfer of property subsequent to the decree absolute there should be no problem.

Proving that will be the hard bit of course.

So as long as he managed to get everything in order before the decree absolute he should be able to get the accounts unfrozen?

Yes if all finacial links have ended that should be OK
