Coming off my DEO

Hi All,

I currently pay my CSA via DEO, I am the NRP. The DEO was by personal choice many years ago. Same amount and straight out of my wages with only a £1 admin fee.

I would like to go to a FBA in the future when the cases cross over to CSA3. (20% charge and possible 7% or 4% to the PWC is helping me make the decision, the PWC also wanted me to have nothing to do with my son, which i now regret and want a fresh start)

It is my understanding that paying by D.D or standing order would put me in a better position to then go onto a Family Based Agreement, is this the case or do I gain nothing from coming off a DEO? (I would of course make contact with PWC regardless, which may start contact with my son again)

I just want to know with the current cross over to CSA 3, is being on DEO going to hinder/stop us from making a FBA?

Thank you for your time.

Jim

  • Hello Jim.

It's my understanding that you currently being on a voluntary DEO wouldn't affect things one way or another if you were to have a case on the 2012 Scheme.

    Hi

I did read the other day, what ever system you were on before, once you go onto the new 2012 system, you are treated as new and can start afresh

It will be a fresh start with a re-assessment, so you can occur arrears if you haven't kept your details up-to-date.

I believe there will be 6 months notice period to both the PWC and NRP?

Can anyone confirm if this has happening or has the cross-cover been happening with little to no notice.

    Thanks

That's correct, the first cases aren't being closed until next year, initially they will start will nil-assessed cases. I'd guess if you've got a case that has a positive assessment in place, and money is flowing between yourself and the mother, that your current case will remain open until 2015 at the earliest.

    Hi Prelude,

What would you recommend, stay on the DEO until I receive notice or start the process now to go to a direct payment method? Would this be supported by a CSA case worker?

I have read that NRP's on a DEO will have to go through a process for 6 months of paying a % by direct payment before going to a FBA or other direct payment option.

If this is the case, I may try and go from DEO to direct payment sooner rather than later.

    Regards

    Jim
