Go bankrupt in UK and move abroad. Does it follow you?

I someone was to declare BR in the UK, and then move the an EU member state, does the abR have any effect on your ability to have a bank account in that new country?

    Hi Sacha

Credit files aren't automatically shared across international borders, so the British BR would not instantly flag up in, say, Italy. In some cases I suppose a foreign bank could ask you for a copy of your UK credit file to satisfy themselves of your credentials, but it would depend on the type of account you were looking to open. There are so many variables... ultimately it comes down to whether that bank deems your custom valuable, worthwhile and safe from their point of view. Furthermore, while there are "basic" accounts available on the UK high street, I don't know whether foreign banks are required to offer equivalent products.

It will be useful if anyone who has opened/tried to open a bank accountg elsewhere in the EU shortly after BR comes across this thread.

  • thank you both for your answers.

I also don't see it being possible to affect your credit score in a new country until such times as an EU or Global credit score/history.

from looking around the net, I couldn't find much on this to be honest.

hopefully someone who has done this can add their comments.

    thanks
