Hello all,
First time poster here in the food section.
Would like to do some antipasti for Christmas evening, have been looking at Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons and Marks.
All have decent selections with Marks offering 3 for £6 (which I think is good) but has anyone have any recommendations?
PS I live in South East London and would be happy to use local deli but our nearest is in Greenwich and it's triple the price!:(

There's a good range in Aldi of both meats and peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms etc. As they're long life (in jars) then I suggest you get them soon and then supplement from other shops if you still want more.0

I've had grilled artichokes, sundried tomotoes and peppers from Aldi, all very good, I would prefer them in brine rather than oil though.Grocery Challenge 2024

Ive tried aldis and home bargains antipasti, no complaints about either of them.0

Waitrose is not cheap, but very tasty! They often are reduced to clear from the deli counter. There's also a new Waitrose near Greenwich0

I'd definitely recommend Aldi:hello:

Happened to be in Lidl's this week and they have jars of aubergines with the antipasti. Haven't tried them yet but if anything like meze they'll be great.0

Im a sucker for antipasti type of meals...
...so here's another vote for Lidl - for sundried tomatoes & chargrilled peppers (sometimes the courgettes & mushrooms) parma ham, continental meats such as parma ham & sliced chorizo & cheeses, also ciabatta breads or other types of fresh baked fancy & seeded rolls.0 -
Have you got a Turkish or Iranian supermarket near you? The one near us does amazing (and good value) olives, sun dried tomatoes, pickles etc, plus a great selection of cheese and the bread is fantastic. Also dates and pastries for dessert.0

Wholefoods antipasti bar is really good, it's priced per 100g so you can pick up as much or as little as you want. You help yourself.
No idea how cost compares with supermarkets though and not sure how far your nearest one is being over in SE London.0 -
This past weekend i bought antipasti from both Lidl and home bargains, for between 99p and £1.79 a jar, the higher price for the largest jar which was roasted red peppers in oil. I always use the oil in cooking/frying so after the primary contents has been eaten, there is no need to throw the oil out, use it. It could also be used for a salad dressing. Olives in brine, sundried tomatoes in oil, roasted peppers, as previously mentioned, just need an accompaniment of cold cuts and/or cheeses. Yum.0
