Cleaning bricks!

Hello,
I have a brick fireplace with a row of bricks on the ground in front of the hearth, I've tried cleaning them and they look lovely wet but when they dry off they looks just as dusty as before I cleaned them. Is there some way to er, oil them maybe? Something to get them to stay looking clean
