Live Wedding Ceremony over the Internet??

Unfortunately for geographical, financial & health reasons, we have several very important people who cannot make our big day. With all the latest technological advances etc, I was looking into the possibility of finding someone who could film the ceremony and broadcast it live over the internet so these people won't miss out completely.

Our ceremony will be held in the Lake District but there seems to be nobody who does this. I could possibly arrange something myself, but the quality won't be good & I'm sure I'll have other more pressing things on my mind as I stand at the altar! Can anyone at least guide me in the right direction?

Please bear in mind that our wedding budget isn't huge!

Considering your budget I would suggest a couple of webcams would be cheap and easy to setup, getting a video production company in who could stream live footage will cost plenty.
  • What about a skype connection using a laptop or iPad and mobile broadband? Xxx

  • Skype from a 3G enabled smartphone is probably your best bet.

However, you will need to have a good quality smartphone with a decent camera, a STRONG 3G signal and wind blowing in the right direction.

I don't rate your chances if I am honest. I don't think the technology is advanced enough yet or reliable enough.

I would have thought the most reliable thing would be to simply record the wedding and send the file/dvds to those who couldn't make it, while attempting to stream the occasion on skype or facetime.
  • Thanks for the advice guys, the Skype thing would probably not be worth it as the sound, picture quality & connection would all be problematic.

Found an outfit on Google who are based up in Scotland called Heart Networks, does anyone know of them? Prices look very reasonable. I think that's about as local as I'm going to get unless somebody else can recommend somebody closer?
  • I'm not sure how professional you want it, but I broadcast mine via UStream on an iPhone this summer. We had a super tiny register office wedding, and one of our guests (we only had 5) held the iphone for us. I have never had the guts to watch it myself, but my parents got all weepy watching it and the friends I sent it to enjoyed it, so I guess it did the trick. We got a Gorilla grip thing to hold the iphone steady, though I can't remember if we used it or not. At the time uStream would give you a temporary professional account. It might be worth playing around with the cheap and cheerful version to see if it would work for you. Relatively recent iPhones have pretty good cameras and microphones, so it's worth a shot if you or a guest has one.
  • Have you checked the churches or such to see if they have this already? I know my local catholic one in Ireland streams all of its masses on the net and have told me it'd be no problem to stream the wedding for this that can't make it. Obviously a tricky one if you're not religious though?
