Theft at work?

  • That is a reasonable thing. I wouldn't have bothered to phone work to tell them I had been given 2, just waited until next time I was in, to hand it in.

    She didn't use the card.
The reasonable thing would have been to let someone know first that they had an extra card rather than wait for someone to contact her.

Did your wife activate the card that was hers? If so, then hopefully this would also be a piece of evidence in her favour, e.g. if she was going to keep it, then she would have activated it when she did the other one.

Yes she activated hers on the Monday, saw she had an extra and was just going to hold onto it until she was next in work (Saturday) and forgot about it.

Her worked called her on Tuesday (next day) asking if she had it, she confirmed she did and that she would keep hold of it until next in. So she never activated it.

Indeed it would, but my wife had allot on her mind (my fault for calling her up each day getting her to do various other things) and forgot to do it. Even before she took them they were sat weeks/months in the draw.

I think that's quite a large sum of company money to have in your possession in error and not mention it. A txt, email or phone call would have covered her back.
Do have to wonder though at how these were being distributed and accounted for. As a voucher is much like cash, someone must have been responsible for the distribution and auditing.

I believe everyone in her team already had their gift card. Just before she took it, she did ask her supervisor who said it was ok (and was surprised she had not already been given it). Its just she did not know there was an extra card there.

She found the extra one when she went to use her gift card on Monday and thought she would return the extra one when she was next in work (she only works weekends).

Did she forget to call or did she not intend to tell them until she was back in work? Anomalies like this will concern the employer.

So your wife thought everyone had a card, and she was the last person to receive one?

We're the cards in a wallet or card?

She forgot to call but would have returned when next in work

    No sure about first.

They were loose in a draw but stuck together.
