Bankruptcy discharge-credit clean up help

Hello

I have just joined the site so if I haven't posted this in the correct place I am sorry!!!

I have just been discharged from my bankruptcy and have followed the information on this site about carrying out a credit file clean up. I am slightly unsure on a few things. I owed a lot of different creditors/lenders however after checking my credit files a lot of them aren't showing.

should I only be writing to the ones that are on my credit files to ensure they are updated accordingly or should I be contacting every single lender even though they haven't marked my credit file? Some of these lenders are from 2008-2009 and haven't added anything to any of the 3 credit agencies at all.

Also some of the information displayed are from debt companies so do I just ask them to update my credit file or do I also contact the actual lender it was originally with as well?

Any help would be appreciated because I have a long list of letters to send. In addition to this some of the lenders that have never updated my credit file sold the debt to collection agencies, which have also never marked my credit file but it has been sold so many times I don't know who I would write to. Would I just contact the original lender even though nobody has ever added to my credit file?

Sorry for the long post just want to get this all sorted and updated.

Thanks

    Hi,
I think you need to re post this question on the 'ASK a step change' forum. They answer questions regarding bankruptcy on this site. Just click on the 'Bankruptcy and living with it' tab and find that conversation.

If I am leading you astray someone usually will point it out fairly quickly.

Actually I have looked again and there is a Sticky with all the information on what to do and who to write after BR which has a lot of info called 'Clean up after BR'

    Hope that helps

According to the second paragraph in the original post, they have already followed the sticky you mention.

I contacted everyone I could including the original lender, it is a bit of a pain but it worked for me

Really you should only have to write to the creditors who show on your report.

Thanks but as stated in my original post I have followed the sticky for clean up after BR but it's not clear on if you just contact the creditors on your file or if you contact all of your creditors......however thank you for trying to help.

Thanks I think I will just probably contact everyone including original lenders and that way I don't miss anyone!! I have lots of work to do....thank you again.

Doesn't do any harm. Although if they have nothing on your report, then there is nothing for them to actually correct.

  • Was just a bit worried that if I didn't contact the lenders that aren't on my credit file that they might add a default in a couple of years in error and state they didn't know I had been bankrupt. I know if that happened I could fight to get it removed but don't want anything tarnishing my file after this....hope that makes sense.

It's confusing too because Bank of Scotland applied a default to my credit file but then sold it after this to a collection company and they too have added another default, is this allowed?
