Help with Robinson Way

Hi all,

I need some advice after receiving an unusual letter from a company called Robinson Way - who I understand from reading other posts on this site aren't a particular friendly organisation.

I've received a letter sent to my current address to confirm that I lived in an address from five years ago.

I've only just moved into my current address and only changed my address with two organisations so far (bank and a magazine company), as well as my job.

I've lived in one other address since I lived at the property that Robinson Way are enquiring about.

Here's the bit that makes it weird. The letter is addressed to my old surname (changed by deedpoll) , which I changed before moving to the address that Robinson Way are enquiring about. As far as I'm aware, there isn't any debt accrued at this address under this name.

So, firstly, how on earth have they got my new address from only 3 organisations that know of my new address and using my old name (which I haven't been known by for a long time)?

Secondly, what should I do now? They ask me to ring them (which obviously I'm not going to!). Should I write to them?

I have no idea what to write though. I have no idea why they are contacting me or how they've managed to track me (having changed my name).

Looking forward to your thoughts.

I would guess they have tracked you through your credit file being updated.
Banks will associate your "nee" name or name changed by deed poll with your other names and this forms part of your credit file.
Get £2 statutory reports from each of the 3 CRA's and see whats on them. That will dictate where you go from there.
  • Thanks krisdorey,

I've purchased the statutory reports and there is nothing that I wasn't aware of on them in terms of debtors.

The only thing that I didn't know was the Robinson Way have run a trace enquiry on my previous name for at all the addresses I've lived in for the last 5 years.

Are they just fishing? Or was that just a method of getting my current address?

Where do you think I should go now? Write to them asking why they are trying to contact me? I can't think of why they want to contact me.

I wanted to just say that I've used this forum before, about 4 yrs ago to help me sort my debt problem out and arrange a debt management plan. You guys helped me out then and I'm hoping you can help me resolve this issue now.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

Your credit file would have tied your names and addresses together. The bank will have reported what they know and you do the same when you request a credit report, which you've done 3 times now.

However, this sounds like it is still a fishing expedition so don't bite at this stage. Wait till they write with clear details of what they say you owe.

    Then send a prove-it.
  • Thanks Fatbelly,

I think you are right, they are fishing for something. I lived there about 5 years ago, so whatever it isn't they are pursuing is coming up to the statute barred deadline.

I'll wait and see what happens next.

    Thanks again.
  • If they write again post more details here and I will try to help. I have dealt with them a few times for other people and they are clueless.
  • Hi, I have just had a call from Robinson Way regarding my son, who has not lived here for at least 7 years...he did have debt at the time and to be truthful, I don't know if it was all sorted out or not... but, anyway, they did ask if they were calling an address that is actually his new address (only lived there for a few months). They said they would write to him. After reading forums etc..I am worried now... that they may be chasing an old debt...that may or may not exist. Can anyone give me any advice on how my son should deal with any correspondence he receives from them? Thank you for any help

If they write, send them this:

    See what comes back.

If he hasn't paid in 6 years or acknowledged the debt in writing for 6 years, it's statute barred, and they can't make him pay.

  • I've decided to post to this thread to see if anyone can help.

I was contacted 6 months after moving into my new address by a company with all the letter head of:- Tocatto.

Re:- a catalogue debt at my previous property that I had over sighted so I followed the instructions in the letter which stated to go on to the website and set-up a payment by direct debit
(which I always hate when it comes to debts much prefer standing order)
so I have done this and the first payment was due to go out in December which did without problems.
So knowing that the money was due to go out when it showed up on the mini statement at the bank I never questioned it.

Only now that I have updated my credit report over the weekend I have seen that the debt is owned by a company called "Hoist Portfolio Holdings Limited" with there address being in Sweden.

Then when I have logged on to online banking I have discovered the direct debit is being called by Robinson way Limited with no reference numbers to link the payment to that debt.
Now when I have checked the Robinson way website they do clearly state that they collect on behalf of Hoist Portfolio how ever I never made contact with either of these companies to arrange the repayments.

When I have run background checks on all these companies at companies house I find that:-
Hoist Portfolio don't need to be registered as not a UK company

Robinson way been set up since 2009

and Tocatto belongs to the Lowell Group.

So what the **** has happened there? (maybe I have a breach of the Data protection ACT) but would not be able to pursue it through the bank as they would view it as I gave my details voluntarily.

How ever now that I got to the tocatto web site and get the message that as of December 2013 all enquiries directed to an 0845 number that when I google it yields no results so must be a new number.

But the main question is who is my repayment agreement with as I set it up with tocatto not Robinson way.

    Action taken so far:-
Contacted Robinson way by email to request that they send me details including an account number so I can make further enquiries and administer my account online.

(Sorry for the long windedness but want to get all the info in)
