Debt trouble and job worry!!

I'm at a bit of a loose end at the moment.

I'm currently going through Stepchange to try and sort out some unsecured debts I have.

The problem I have, and I have been told I could declare myself bankrupt, is that I work for a bank. So this isn't an option, but I am going down the 'token' payment route.

Do I need to tell them? Am I going to lose my job?

  • What happens if you get CCJ's? (through making token payments) that would be my worry in all honesty

I think you would have to tell at some stage, maybe not straight away as least it's not like your applying for job when you would have to pass checks if that buys some time, any family you can turn to or generate some funds to clear a chuck and ease the pressure? it maybe hard in the beginning but if you can't hide it come clean, I feel for your situation don't get down and do anything rash, if honesty doesn't pay you tried and no one can ask nothing more of you, remember it is not a crime to have debt, your doing something and the bad time we've had how do you know the person beside you also hasn't had some sort of debt related problem (keep that firmly in your mind)

As a side note and whilst maybe daft, ever had PPI you can reclaim? yep I did encounter a bank employee who spoke of being in this situation, just like all the other folk we helped get justice, you would be just as entitled as well, I know bank staff don't have the easy way out x

Thank you for your kind reply.

I wrote to HSBC and they responded that they don't have any files...but I'm going to submit a Subject Access Request when I have a spare tenner.

I think I'm going to have to mention it to my employer when I've had a response back from my creditors as to my £1.00 per month proposal...so if they take legal action my employers don't think I'm going to act fraudulently to get myself out of this situation.

I love my job in finance, and I'm great helping other people with their troubles...just a shame I can't sort my own situation out. But I've gone to Step Change and I WILL sort things out, I'm putting down for overtime galore and waiting for my second job to sort itself out. xx

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Is that a Consumer Credit Agreement request?

The loans themselves were over 15 years ago...so I'm not sure if I could obtain this? Would I detail that with a SAR?

    xx
