Online grocery shopping-use-by dates

If you have your shopping delivered, e.g. on a Friday, what do you consider to be a reasonable use-by date for food items?
I have been put off recently by short use-by dates but wondered if I am being fussy. In my opinion, I should be able to eke out my food items for the rest of the week, i.e. till next delivery. I know some items, e.g. fish, might have a shorter lifespan than others but I just wondered what you think.

I use Ocado quite often for fresh and on the receipt you get a list showing the use by dates. I don't recall getting anything really short dated other than seafood which has a short shelf life anyway.
You might find the dates are shorter because those were the available ones when your shopping was picked instore. The pickers will probably just grab from the front because they have lots of orders. Whereas when I'm shopping I always rummage at the back of the shelf to find the longest date and colder food.0 -
I don't trust online shopping for reasons of the short use by dates it puts me off.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

I have never shopped online but when I looked into it once i remember reading one of the supermarkets made a point of saying they only pick the longest used by date items, whether that is true I don't know.0

I think 3 or 4 days is reasonable.
I had Tesco deliver a joint on Thursday that ran out of date today and I called them to say that I thought 2 days was unreasonable and they replied that 2 days is their minimum policy so there was nothing I could do other than cook it today for tomorrows dinner.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know.
