Student finance advice needed!
Options
I want to go to uni (was actually offered a place, but had to withdraw :-(), and applied for a student loan through direct.gov. I've been living in the UK for a year, and have a Dutch passport, but not only could I not get a maintenance loan, I was told I am completely ineligible because I spent a few years in Australia before I moved here.
The course I want to do is not available part-time, and if I take out a personal loan I'll have to pay back monthly sums during my time in uni, so I can't afford that. Does anyone have any idea whether there are options to take out a similar loan as a graduate development thingy, but for undergraduate courses? I desperately want to do this course, and being turned down for finance was a huge blow for me!

Iam afraid iam not sure if there is such a loan I have took career development loan but that for postgraduate study which you only pay after you graduate. Students accounts with overdraft up to £3000 can help but if you looking to cover the course fee, I hope someone else have answer for you
Good luck0 -
Try applying for a grant through the Dutch system. It's probably not the same rules for every country but my French GF did her degree over here with help from her home country.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 567- Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0

To be eligible for funding you need to be ordinarily resident in the UK for the 3 years leading up to the start of your course. Could you put your plans on hold for a couple of years? What course are you trying to do?0 -
Hey guys, thanks for the advice;
I looked into getting finance from Holland, but there might be a problem; although I've only been here about a year, I've been away from there for 4! By next year, which is when I'll be appying, that will be 5 out of the last 6 years, and don't really have any ties over there, so it's going to be hard for me to provide proof of me being there long enough to be eligible.
Am considering stubbornly re-applying for British finance next year; have by then been here 2 years, and I could argue that as I was always a visitor in Australia, technically I was a resident of Holland before that (I did spend some time of the year before I came here in Holland, before going back to Oz on a visitor visa). Might that way be able to get at least a tuition fee loan, will by then have some money saved and can take a student loan out at a bank for some extra funds...
Fingers crossed! At least I know what I'm in for now, and what the obstacles will be...0
