Child Benefit Tax Calculator Question

in Cutting tax
I am using the Government's own Child Benefit Tax Calculator to check my circumstances as HMRC have stated that based on info I gave them this morning, I fall below the threshold for the tax year 12/13.
The calculator is here:
https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit-tax-calculator
HMRC told me to include Professional Subscriptions I paid in that year as this (along with Gift Aid) is deductible, but nowhere on the calculator do I see anywhere to put Professional Subscriptions. The box does not exist.
I ended up using the box "Pension Contributions Not Paid From Your Salary" but this hardly seems right.
Is this a deliberate oversight? Are there better calculators out there? Any advice appreciated.
Thank You.

The point is that ALLOWABLE professional subscriptions are a legitimate reduction of your salary. Does it really matter when they are taken off?The only thing that is constant is change.0
