Hi - New User with a problem - Loan to friend via paypal/CC
Comments

99.9% money is gone.
In future never lend or borrow money from friends or family, it always ends in tears!!0 -
I'm not some idiot
I think you need to print this out and stare at it for ten minutes every day.
Sorry, but this is just one of the ways a certain type of people operate and I would suspect they have done exactly the same thing to others at the same time.
Try not to beat yourself up about it but learn from the experience and never do it again.0 -
As you did not pay her directly with the credit card they will not do anything. It's paypal's rules you have to follow as this was the method of payment and as they have already said no I don't honestly think there is much you can do.0

I know it's fallen outside PayPal's stupid rules,
Don't blame Paypal for your unwise loan. You weren't expecting any goods or services in return for the money - you expected to get the money back within a few weeks. The contract as far as the CC is concerned is between you and Paypal - Paypal have not failed to keep to their side of the contract so you have no claim with the CC company.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
Send you mate a few hundred then claim it all back again from Paypal?
If I were a betting man I would wager this simple system would be abused.0 -
Well, if he sent the payment marked as a payment for goods/services then he might have a chance to do something... after all he didn't get any goods or services and how can it be proved that it wasn't a private business transaction? He might say he didn't receive the goods etc... to CC company.
I am not sure at all, so I'd like to ask if it's a possible course of action for OP. It would be lying anyway

Credit card would still not pay out as the transaction was made via PayPal so it is paypal's rules that apply and OP is outside if their guidelines.0

I don't see the need for the digs and unhelpful replies, I didn't walk into this blind, it was someone I've known for a very long time and was part of a close circle of friends, there's a whole group of us who've met up, been to each other weddings, stayed with each other etc etc etc.
In this instance I've been used as a "soft touch" and I'm well aware of it, I'm not beating myself up as I make more than I loaned out in a day, the issue is this person breached my trust and is using me as a free or at least cheap ride and making her realise this is not acceptable is only going to be achieved by my finding a way to drag the money back out of her.
I already know that she has produced the product and who the customer was, my next step if there is no other option will be to contact them and provide them with the details in the hope they will withhold payment to her until the situation is resolved. At that point I'll be contacting small claims, I do have a full electronic trail of the transfers and communications where she cited this specific order was to pay me back, plus prior to the "loan" she was quite clear, in writing, about what profit she would make back on the order such that she could repay me and I have that conversation saved off.
I have her full name, full address, phone number, family and friends names and addresses, so this isn't a case of my stupidity in not knowing the person, just in trusting someone. But if we do not and can not put our trust in people then the world would be a very sad place. In this instance mine was broken, but I'm not going to sit back and accept it as a learning experience. I'm old enough to look at something and decide if it's a good or bad risk, but also not to let it lie if it does turnout to be a bad choice, as that only makes the other person more likely to repeat their actions with others.0 -
I know it's fallen outside PayPal's stupid rules, but I was wondering if there was any route via my C/Card company since the payment was £hundreds, for which I haven't received any goods or services in return.
Business transactions should always be backed up with pieces of paper documenting the transaction. Were ever possible having legal validity is advisable as well.
You made a loan. So there was were no goods or services involved.0
