Remote car key replacement

Hi guys wondering if you could help me, I was looking a replacement remote control key for my car, i have the spare which is the only one that came with the car.
After being around a few places in Belfast city centre (and the dealer £160 for a key!!!) I haven't found anywhere that would do this.
Any ideas, I'm willing to travel to get a decent priced key - not like overpriced dealerships!
Thanks,

It depends on the key and if it needs programing. Have you tried Timpsons? I asked them about a key for my old Citroen then choked when he said it was a dealer only fob and I was looking over £100.

Try Marlowe. They are on the Antrim Road near the Water Works and also at Forestside.

There are plenty of non franchise dealers who can program them in for less

Sometimes the owner's handbook provides instructions for programming keys although I can't remember for sure if that's for existing keys or new ones. Surely it's worth a flick through the manual to see if there's anything on it though?

Ridiculous price these guys charge. Don't think Timsons, good as they are, can code replacement keys. I have heard of keys being ordered from car dealerships in France and Germany at a small fraction of the cost of a key from a UK dealer. Apparently some makes can be cut and coded from the car chassis number. Could be worth a look!

It's the key which is the expensive part as far as I know because it contains the microchip gubbins. It gets coded through inserting it into the ignition and carrying out certain actions. I think that's because each car has an individual code which can only be replicated by copying it onto another key.
  • Sorry, just getting back to the MSE forum now.
Its for a C4 over the weekend i've been told to get a 4 digit code from citroen to get the new key.
    Thanks,
