when moneysaving becomes dangerous!!

"Hundreds of people queued outside the shop from 05:00 GMT for the promotion. However, when it got under way three hours later, there was what one woman described as a "stampede" with people wrestling over the goods"

I think the only thing that i've ever queued up for for hours have been tickets for the match. And that was years ago, i wouldn't do it now.

So much marketing email about Black Friday this year versus previous years. I've given up on sales, the comparison "normal" prices are so ludicrous that I can't be bothered trying to work out if it's a good deal or not.
  • And half the stuff is probably on Gumtree within 5 mins for just under normal price !!

A bargain is only a bargain if your need it. Often the best option is to simply resist temptation. Do you need most consumer goods? If not don't be bounced.

Too true. I have a friend with a Christmas job in a store this year, he is intercepting certain products, purchasing them (with staff discount) and then ebaying them for approximately double the RRP and making a tidy sum. Not that I'm judging, I'd do the same given half a chance.

I knew nothing about this advance. I'm shocked at the behaviour of people but I suppose I'm long enough in the tooth to understand greed.

Personally I wouldn't ever get involved in something so undignified. If I want something and I don't have the money to pay the right price I wait until I do or can get a bargain without scrambling over the top of other people to purchase it - or vice versa.

We don't do 'city or shopping centre' shopping - last time OH was in Belfast the 'Balls on the Falls' wasn't there which gives an idea of how frequently we visit.

Didn't realize it was Black Friday: today was our family expedition to the bright lights.

Arrived 08:55, Jury's for breakfast. (£10 all inclusive multi course buffet, hot & cold drinks. Managed 2 courses, 3 fruit juice, 2 x coffees, rolls etc. Heartily recommended and, if you break down into unit costs definitely moneysaving.)

Breakfast lasted until 10:15 then onward to Castle Court - managed about 45 mins, bought 4 x books & pr ladies trousers: neither of us can 'do' with crowds TBH.

A gentle wander & browse through the side streets, longest individual stop was Easons - 15 - 20 mins, no purchases.

M&S clothing & foodhall - about 30 mins, bought 2 items, iced Christmas cake & a pure wool top for MiL: strange atmosphere (more like you'd expect in a bargain shop, things being sntched, discarded & litterally trampled on, not quite mass hysteria but almost.

Back at the station for coffee at 13:00, transport at 13:30.

Home with 3 carrier bags and proceeded to spend more in our local (family owned) pet shop than we had in the city.

TBH, think we'll give it a miss next year. And the year after.
