I do have a meat thermometer. Its a spike and dial type where by you piece the meat with the spike and the dial spins around to a temperature which is against the type of meat.
I prefer a food probe which is digital and gives a reading. I bought the proble from ebay and the digital one from Wilkinsons I think.

We have a generic 'made in China' thermometer with a metal spike and a digital reading. There is no brand name, it was a cheapy off flea-bay, but it works just fine, though it takes a while to read the temperature. We use it for all sorts of things - meat, jam, sweets etc and it copes well with all of those.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

I love my digital meat thermometer which I think I originally got from Lakeland, I also have one of the spike ones that I generally just use for my Xmas turkey to stop overcooking.
I have just ordered a food probe from Amazon, it wasn't expensive and I used to use one at work - makes life a lot easier.0 -
