My daughter was sent an Iphone by 02 which she did not want. As she is not living here I sent the phone back to them by post today. I thought that recorded delivery was secure but my husband says not and thinks that the phone will be stolen in the post.
I would not have sent it by that method if I had known and would have paid more for it to be secure but now I am wondering if the phone is stolen in the post if there is anything at all I can do to get compensation for the phone. I was trying to help my daughter. I am very worried as cannot afford to pay for the thing.

Why did they send it if she did not want it?
The problem with recorded delivery is all it requires is a signature, and I believe the compensation you can claim if it not received (signed for) is £30. Special delivery however would have insured for £500 in the event of non arrival. It costs more obviously, £6 or so for a letter so would be a tanner at a guess for the phone.0 -
She's suffering from depression at the moment and I think they kind of pressurised her into agreeing with the deal and then she got in touch with me and said she didn't want it.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Typically the Royal Mail is pretty secure these days - I wouldn't assume it'll definitely go missing. It sounds like the best thing you can do now is just keep an eye on tracking, and keep in touch with O2, so you know as soon as possible when it's reached its destination. Unfortunately, as *manda* said, the compensation level for Recorded Delivery is very low.0

As the phone is in the post, stop worrying. Deal with the issue if and when it happens.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Post again when (if) it doesn't turn up. Very likely it will be fine.
For future refernece, all post is insured to a degree. You just pay for a signature as proof of delivery (recorded) or more insurance and tracking at each sorting office (special). None are guaranteed "secure".0 -
Absolutely- people knock RM but I use them a lot for eBay and have never really had any problems. I'm sure it'll be fine but just bear in mind for future the difference in compo to ease your mind.0
