Freezing milk in glass bottles?

We've finally got around to getting milk from the milkman and I was just wondering if you can freeze the milk in the bottles they come in or whether I would have to decant it into something else?

Might break the bottle, if not, would push milk out of top of bottle as contents froze.0

Pour it into a freezer bag, leave room for expansion (squashing the air out of the top first) and then put inside a tub of some sort. That way when you freeze it you'll get a nice brick shape of milk which will pack away easily. You can always take the tub off when the milk becomes solid.

pour milk into ice cube tray. When frozen put cubes into bag/container. Just take out as many cubes as you need, when you need. Can always put a frozen cube in cold milk shake, etc!"Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm Welsh" Cerys Matthews0

Why would anyone want to freeze milk if they get it delivered by the milkman?

Just get less delivered!
Milk from the milkman isn't MSE anyway. It's the most expensive way to buy it and the farmer doesn't get any more for it anyway!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

True it's not the cheapest method but I calculated the extra cost vs time spent buying milk and decided that considering it saves wasting all that plastic it was worth it. Ours is from a farmer's cooperative so I imagine they get a decent price.Milk from the milkman isn't MSE anyway. Good for you. Checked with friend and bottle would crack. Did try to explain the mechanics to me but to cut it short - don't try it."Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm Welsh" Cerys Matthews0

Not everything is about saving money. When we changed to milk delivery it was more expensive so we quit having a daily paper. The milkman has a job, and the lack of recycling plastic is good and the milk tastes better (not tainted by plastic). Do we really want the only place we can buy milk to be from a supermarket? I don't you see how much it would cost then!Milk from the milkman isn't MSE anyway. also there are cases of chemical transfer between cleaning products and water bottles. basically, the fumes are obsorbed by the water in a bottle next to it, even if bottles haven't been opened. so beware anyone who stores both of these products under the sink.

I put a milk bottle in the freezer years ago... it cracked and my brothers laughed at me for being so stupid. *blush*0
