If the application end date for a vacancy has passed, but it's still on the website does that mean they're still looking for applicants? Or have they just not bothered to take it down.!I think I'll apply anyway for the hell of it.

Apply but beware if you fail the questionnaire you are banned from applying from any ASDA job for 6 mths
This.
As a former employee (thank god) of ASDA, the only real chance of getting hired is if you somehow miraculously get the answers right or they are mass recruiting (how I got one of my first jobs there).
I had a friends mother help me with mine, most questions, logically to me, didn't make sense as to why they were the "best" answer.
A few points for the application and interview process;
They tally it on points, get enough points and you'll get invited to a group interview (at least in mass recruitment anyway, don't know about smaller recruitment drives).
If you get to the group interview stage, make sure you try and think outside of the box and ambition on whatever task they give you, they love that. If you sit there and don't do anything other than the activity in silence, you won't get it.
It's a good way to get taken on temp to permanent, if that's what the application is for, I knew a lot of people who worked hard and got that.
Just a word of caution if you do get a job:
Depending on your age (if you're under 25 they treat you like you're completely stupid), and the shifts they allocate you and the way they work in that store, be prepared for a chance of being treated harshly. The ASDA I worked in had a tendency to "make an example" of someone, and eventually get rid of them, they would do this around each department one by one and cycle round. When I realised what was going on, it went from Produce, to Chilled, to my department, BIBC (which was actually clockwise around the store). If you're made the target, they refuse to help upon request, make life hard for you and will nitpick everything until your morale is so low you just stop caring and they can dismiss you easily.
Apparently this makes people in those departments and nearby work harder, not sure how scaremongering helps morale.
This may not be the case around other stores, but it was the 'norm' and deemed as acceptable in the store I worked in. My complaints never got a reply after I left.
Anyhow, good luck, and I hope you find a decent store with good ethics.Professional Data Monkey

The questions I answered were nearly all accounts/stock based ones as I applied for the post of Peoples Clerk. In fact I cant really remember any others as in what is the right answer in this situation as the role was not based on the shop floor.

Yeah. As I said, the points system is pretty ridiculous and flawed. It makes absolutely no sense. It's a pot-luck system for getting a job, just gotta hope you got it right.Professional Data Monkey

I don't think an accounts based test is a points system. The answer is either right or wrong and really couldn't believe I failed a stock/accounts test.
Perhaps. I wouldn't know if the test, or questionnaire is different. I always assumed everyone had to take the same one with all the attitude and various other "what would you do in this situation?" style questions to be considered for any job.Professional Data Monkey

Can I ask what the vacancy was for? I ask as by this time most of the Christmas temp jobs for warehouse have been filled. Although if you do apply and pass, they may keep your details on file for the next 'recruitment drive' (when I applied using the old paper style app form, I applied in the august, got the usual thanks letter stating will keep on file etc, was offered an interview the following April and the rest is history)
I can ask the question for you with our team 2mo if you're still interested in applying.0 -
