Why is my slow cooked food so bland??

Hi all

I've been using my new slow cooker a lot recently, trying to use up bits and pieces plus use cheaper cuts of meat etc. Although I love the texture of the meat I find that everything tastes so bland...is this normal

I've cooked a couple of curries, using exactly the same ingredients as I would hob style and one of them was meant to be madras strength and my dh thought it was a goulash :rotfl:

What am I doing wrong, should I increase the spices?

Any idea

Spices shouldn't really be slow cooked. If you want to make it less bland, cook it and add all the spices at the end.

I always add my flavours towards the end of cooking, I also had the same problem and I found this has made a BIG differance to my cooking.

I don't really like my slow cooker. Handy at times but I find the same as you.

Even when spices are not involved the food is quite bland. I think it's because you don't get the flavour concentration because the liquid doesn't evaporate.

TBH I'm considering freecycling my slow cooker (blasphemy I know!) because of this issue.
