I have only recently discovered the "Whistling Chef" microwaveable meals. They are really lovely, easily the best shop curry I have ever tasted. Absolutely full of flavour and IMO, close to restaurant standard.
I get them in Londis for £2.99 and I also love the "Veetee" basmati rice which is a good sized portion, microwaveable and normally just £1.
My favourite is the Chicken Madras. I just bung it in the microwave and cook it for about 6 minutes. The whistling does make quite a racket.

Boke!
If I'm desperate and shattered I'll use a jar of Lloyd sauce and fry up some meat and a bit of veg and use that. Doing your own rice steamed in a pot is the easiest thing on earth so I always do that (it works out something like 10 pence per portion).
It barely takes any effort to do this over micro meals and you know you're getting some real veg and quality meat.0 -

Loyd sauce.
I normally make my own curries and am pretty good at cooking. You are right about the rice, but it's one of the few things I always seem to mess up. Hate when it's overcooked. You may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)0 -
Sainsburys ready meal madras is really nice and Aldi tinned hot curry is great for £1 but you really can't beat a home made curry.0
