Tree lights

Possibly a really daft question, but how many fairy lights do you put on your christmas tree?
We're going to have a proper christmas tree this year (previously we've had a little fake pre-lit one because we haven't been home on christmas etc) so I need to buy some lights but I'm not sure how many to buy. If you had a 5-6 foot tree how many lights do you think you'd need?
I don't know if it makes a difference but I'll be going for all white lights because my collection of decorations is quite eclectic and colourful so I think white lights in the background tie it all together nicely.

Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

We always have a real tree, usually around 6 foot and I've found around 200 white lights to be about right - and up to 350 wouldn't look out of place!:starmod: Everything will be ok in the end; if it's not ok, it's not the end :starmod:
A HUGE thank you to all that post competitions0 -
We have a 6 foot tree, and I have 2 sets of lights on it, think about 350 - 400 lights. I put the tree in the corner of the room and never do the back of the tree.0

we have a 5ft one and use 80 lights'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

I think we usually have three strings of lights but not sure how many that is. We love lots of lights0

i have a 5ft tree and i'd happily put up to 300 white lights on it (I love a tree with lots of little lights on)0 -
I would agree with everyone here, go for 300+ AND if you haven't already sorted out a proper tree stand that has a reservoir for water, make sure you do, and keep it topped up, a good tip is to fold an old towel up and pop that underneath, this will soak up any spills as it can be tricky to get the water in the pot ( I have a pot that looks like a garden tub but the part that the tree fits in is in the centre and you stabilise the tree by screwing the three bolts into the tree trunk, this is great as you fill the whole tub with water and the central part too, the result is the air around the tree is a little more humid!) also don't forget to saw off a inch from the bottom before you set it up, and obviously dont have the tree near a radiator or the fire!! Good luck!!0

300 seems very excessive to me but it depends on your personal preference I use 160 for my tree (5 or 6 foot I can't remember) and I find that is plenty0
