Anyone seen a cheap angel costume/white dress (for school play)

I am struggling to find a cheap option for my daughter's costume - she is 5 and is an angel in the school play this year. I don't have a sewing machine and not much time to sit and sew by hand so wondered if anyone has seen any cheap options for an angel outfit or white dress that I could buy for her.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Not sure what size your daughter is but could you cut a half scoop neck out of an upside down white pillow case? add on white tights or socks or white slippers . finish off the neckline and armholes with anything white, maybe white tinsel stapled on round the hem , total cost a pound for the tinsel. Make a wand/star out of cardboard covered in silver wrapping / baco / tin foil for free and a halo hmmm not sure maybe a circlet of tinsel again, tinsel could be white or silver .
Do you have any old net curtains, that can be cut with scissors without the need for hemming , fashion a skirt shape onto elastic along the header tape , tie a knot in the back and cut two arm holes to make a loose dress rather like a barbers cape .
do you have an old white poncho? that would do as a white dress.
could you borrow an old holy communion, bridesmaid or Disney dress in white?
one of dads old shirts buttoned up back to front and the sleeves cut off to the childs wrist length, again trimmed with tinsel neck, sleeves , hem or all 3!
maybe a white tshirt could be modified.
You could even buy a giant sized xmas square gift bag any pattern from somewhere like the card factory , cut all round the edges so you end up with 2 huge squares, turn wrong side out so the white sides are facing , then draw a dress/angel shape on both pieces, cut out with scissors , include a neck and arm holes and sellotape along both shoulders and down both sides, trim with silver tinsel again , this would cost £2, £1 for the gift bag and a £1 for the tinsel0 -

+1 for being merciless to a pillowcase if you can spare one & going wild with tinsel.
(Had you a son, I'd remind you at least one Archangel carried a sword... Saved a lot of outraged indignation & rather one-upped the Wise Men.)0 -
Thanks for you replies. She does have to have a halo made of tinsel and I don't think wings or wand are needed, it's just the dress.
cazpumpkin - you are so creative, wow, would never have thought of making a costume out of those things you suggest!0 -
Don't know how's your daughter would do, but mine she didn't need wings was saying that too. At that time my older one got through Egyptians and they played a lot at home. So I folded a sheet like Cleo's sheer dress, you know, wing-ly one. And she was satisfied. Then it was dressed rehearsal, the day before and at the bed time she said to me: "Mummy, I want the wings". Probably some of the girls commented and she was the only one without... And she was really upset and there were no time to do anything. In the end the teacher gave her hers. So think again. As for wings, usually they have it in Poudland/99p stores but before Christmas it could be sold out.0

Thanks for the advice, we do have some fairy wings in the dress up box so can use them as back up. I was wondering if the other girls would have really fancy princess/fairy type dress ups with nice wings. Anyway I borrowed a lovely dress from a friend which it turned out was too small (and too tickly my daughter said). So I have now got a white top and ordered a white tuille skirt from H&M for £3 (was doing an order anyway and the skirt would be good for parties if it stays without stains, my girls are good at spilling things down anything pale!).0 -
In the school I wok in wwe ask parents to send in a plain white t-shirt, white tights and silver tinsel. We then staple the tinsel around the neck, arms and bottom of the t-shirt and tie some around their hair.
