Mortgage on hold for credit report?

My husband and I are first time buyers, in the process of getting a 95% mortgage with the Halifax. :j
After sending in wage slips and proof of income information recently, we came home from work tonight to missed calls. Our usual point of contact was busy when we rang back at teatime, but, we spoke to another adviser and they asked us to provide the Halifax with a copy of our credit report. Stating that our mortgage was on hold?!
All seems very odd and we was wondering if anyone else has experienced this before? If so, is it suggesting we have bad credit???
