I've created a VCD of a camcorder recording, using Arcsoft Media Impressions.
When I put it in the DVD player, it loads up all right, and displays the menu screen, but when I press play, nothing happens

Is the DVD player compatible with VCDs? If it's a DVD video player that plugs into a TV it might not be; if you're doing this on your PC you might want to download VLC Media Player, which can play most video files/discs without problems.

I don't get the "Wrong Disc" message.
It loads up OK, and shows the menu screen, but it won't respond to the play button.0 -
Try the "OK" button instead (or whatever the button in the middle of the arrows on your remote is labelled). Also try using the arrow buttons to see if there is something showing what is highlighted.0

Yes, I tried the OK button too.
The only thing highlighted is the recorded file, as there's only one file recorded on the disc.0 -
Will it play on the computer?
Possibly a codec issue. MPEG /MPEG2 ?
Long time since i used VCD format... 50 minutes of fuzzy video to a 700mb CD
ahhh memories.
Trying to explain to the old uns that no matter how good their shiny new HD TV is, Their old VHS tape collection will always look poor quality.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Try using something like Nero Express or even better, windows dvd maker which is built into windows 70
-
Tried using Nero Express, but it's a .MOV file, and NE won't accept it.
I'm on XP, not W7.0 -
Media Player Classic - Home Cinema
But VLC should have done it. Just remember to remove the tick from File Associations when you are installing VLC. Otherwise it takes everything over.0 -
Thanks HT, but I need to make a DVD/VCD that will play on a DVD player.0

From memory (and I'm happy to be corrected), Windows Movie Maker will cope with .MOV files and then you can output it as an AVI file which NE will quite happily burn on to a DVD.
If WMM won't cope with MOV files, there's loads of conversion software available.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
