Asda Bread

Options
I've noticed that Asda own-brand white bread, the ones that are normally on offer 2 for £1, don't have ingredients or nutritional information listed on them.

Isn't this against the law these days?

Good question.. have to say that most of the *freshly* baked bread in Sainsbury's, Waitrose and ASDA doesn't have labels. Maybe it's just bread on shelves in aisles that needs it legally ? Even Waitrose *freshly* baked organic baguettes don't have nutritional labels on them, although each one has a Soil Association label.

I've seen in one independent in-store suppermarket bakery, a list of ingredients used in the bread on a wall, but even then, there's no nutritrional info.

Suggest asking ASDA customer services or Food Standards Agency ?

Dont know the particular bread ( no Asda near me ) you are referring to - but any "unwrapped" / "instore" bread doesnt have to be marked with anything

Ther also appear to be exclusions that apply to white-bread , but the regulations appear pretty dense and I couldnt really follow them

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1996/1499/made/data.pdf

( section 23 part 3 says that regulation 5 - which is to do with ingredients - doesnt apply to white bread )

Ah - I've just spotted on the wrapper it says "Freshly baked and sliced in store" so I guess that means it's excluded from the requirement.

It's confusing though, because it's displayed with all the stuff that isn't baked in store, and wrapped the same way.
