life after bankruptcy

hi
in my life my wife and myself had to go bankrupt and now a few year on after being discharged i got one of those free credit reports, now the upshot of this it seems as two of our creditors are still updating the debt, now am i being thick or arnt they meant to draw a line under it from the date of the bankruptcy? also i read somewhere that you can write to the creditors and as them to mark the debt as settled, is this true or false? if this is true how do you go about this?
