Email has practically taken over from phone calls or even face-to-face meetings for thousands of workers but we could all be wasting our time. Experts now think one in three of all our emails are pointless and we could make decisions far quicker if we chatted on the phone or spoke to work colleagues directly rather then spending two hours a day on average dealing with emails.
According to the survey by Plantronics, three and a half years of a working life spent emailing are a complete waste of time, since 32% of messages read and sent are considered irrelevant. Only 43% of managers surveyed felt that a tiny proportion (10%) of emails sent clearly conveyed the intended message.
Just having a wireless headset could help us all speed through our daily workload as we manage to arrange meetings, negotiate sales and draft documents all at the same time, in fact using a phone with a wireless headset increases work related productivity by 23% by allowing workers to multi-task and concentrate more effectively. Cutting down on the number of emails we send out to our bosses and our colleagues might also help us build friendships with the people we work with – always a good thing that helps the working day pass pleasantly.
But don’t panic if your boss has not provided you with a wireless phone headset yet, Plantronics are giving away CS70 wireless headsets which are light enough to be almost unnoticeable to the wearer with comfort a key factor in the design.
All you have to do to win your way to a more productive working day is just answer this simple question.
How many of our emails are pointless and irrelevant?
Answer: One In Three
Good Luck

Well I can certainly say that at least 1 out 3 of the emails I receive are unnecessary, if not more!!!!
