sorry, that was a typo
I had log on the brain but the answer is def YULE CAT
the question in the mag is..
In Iceland which Christmas character is said to eat children who haven't worked hard..
http://www.neffzone.com/cadillacnews/2012-December-22.html
the kids in Iceland don't have time to dangle toe strings because they're too busy working. A famous Christmas character is the scary Yule Cat. Tradition says he eats children who haven't worked hard enough. Basically, if you have finished all your work before Christmas you get new clothes and you are safe. The Yule Cat only looks for the lazy kids in old clothes.

Two different puzzles. One is a large crossword where certain letters from the solved puzzle spell out the Icelandic Christmas character said to eat children who haven't worked hard. Based on the completed crossword, the answer is Yule Cat.
The second is a smaller crossword, again using certain letters from the solved puzzle to spell out a word. The answer is definitely Yule. I have checked and double checked.
Maybe I should have explained how I arrived at my answers in my OP and I sincerely apologise for any confusion. I have added a note which I hope is sufficient for this week, but I will make sure I explain my answers more fully in the future.
