Hi an update I was br August 2012 discharged August 2013.
I got insurance with privilege during my br for a bit more than I would normally have paid...I paid for the year as I save every month for yearly bills, anyway renewal came this week with a small increase so I went onto compare the market and ticked the box for have you or anyone in your household ever been br.
The post office came up with a really good price even with the option to pay monthly...went to pay and the co op debit card is still showing as electron and they asked for further payment details...I took the easy option and used a barclaycard my son added me onto so it went straight through.
When I checked which companys would not quote..and there were many, privilege were one of them.
There is a light at the end of all this...keep going its getting better x

Hi - Perhaps what we need to do is challenge the comparison sites on their 'ever been BR' tick box? It seems to me that different insurers have different lengths of time before they will accept BR's and the comparison sites are just being lazy in their rush to provide quotes as fast as possible.
On the comparison sites - co-op wont quote for BR's but if you go directly to them - they don't seem to have any objection to providing cover - just to offering instatements to BR's. On their own site they don't even ask if you are BR - its only when you come to pay for instalments that they do a credit check. The price quoted is the same whether you are BR or not if you are paying for a full year in advance. Which - now I can actually save for is a better deal anyway as there is no interest to pay. I wont be going back to the instalment method any time soon.0 -
I've just taken out Content insurance with the Co-op... No question about bankruptcy - I was discharged in 2010.. Used debit card to pay deposit, and then 10 equal payments.. In the key points, no mention of BR at all - just general question about criminal record/pending charges.. btw my contents quote was £100 for 50k with all the bells and whistles..

wow that was expensive mine was £55. but good news its certainly not been the problem I thought so good news all round0

£55 wow! I must see what I have on mine that is so special to cost me £18 per month!
H x0 -
Mine was about £50 as well but of course it depends so much on your postcode, the value you insure for, the size of your home, your excess etc so its hard to make comparisons.
Either way - it seems like we are all pretty happy with the co-op for BR tolerant home insurance

We had contents insurance through the AA when we went BR, the year after they put it up to nearly £300! for no reason at all as we had not moved or claimed.
I went to my local branch of Yorkshire Bank and spoke to an advisor, we got a good deal and paid monthly.
We then moved in January and I have gone through the Co-op, good rate and still paying monthly.
Different thing but when I was BR I wanted to change car insurers, I rang the Co-op, spoke to an advisor who put it through and lifted the flag on monthly payments and was able to pay monthly straight away.
So, yes, there is a light at the end of that very long dark tunnel!0 -
I think i best go in search of a better insurer...i have always been with TSB, and continued with them after BR, 1999 i started with them at just over £8 per month...i am now paying £18 per month for contents cover :mad:0
